About the MPhil / PhD Programs in AMC

The Division of Arts and Machine Creativity (AMC) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is actively seeking MPhil and PhD candidates for the Fall 2026 intake. Our programs emphasize advanced research and scholarly inquiry in the intersection of arts and machine creativity, providing students with the chance to engage in comprehensive studies that enhance the field and explore the fusion of art and technology. We invite exceptional undergraduate and graduate students with a Master's degree in relevant scientific research or critical studies to apply.

Postgraduate students will receive sufficient scholarship support during their study at HKUST. The amount of scholarship is around HKD225,120 (USD28,900) per person per year. The annual tuition of a postgraduate student is HKD42,100 (USD5,300).

Furthermore, the Hong Kong government selects incoming excellent PhD students to award the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (HKPF) each year. The amount of the HKPF is around HKD27,600 per month, plus a travel allowance of HKD13,800 each year. Please find relevant information at the HKUST's HKPFS webpage.

Prospective applicants are required to have good academic records and meet the University’s English Language Requirements.

Early Recruiting Phase

The early recruiting phase, targeting exceptional MPhil and PhD candidates through short interviews, will last from 1 June to 15 August 2025. Applicants are required to react out to at least two faculty members, including a prime supervisor from AMC, by submitting their research proposals and CVs for a discussion on suitability. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited for online or in-person interviews.
