The First Graduation Show of MA in Arts and Machine Creativity Opens at HART HAUS, Marking a new Milestone for AMC

2026-06-29

The Division of Arts and Machine Creativity (AMC) under the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has officially opened its inaugural MA graduation exhibition, curated by student curators and featuring the works of student artists.

Titled When Experience Returns Otherwise, the exhibition reflects the idea that human experience is not something bygone, but rather a dynamic process mediated by technology to be re-sensed across different media and contexts. It deeply explores how our shared human experience shifts through the convergence of art and technology.

Featuring 19 students presenting six interactive installations and eight generative AI films, the works dive into the realms of artificial intelligence, human computer interaction, and computer graphics. Rather than simply experimenting with technology, these artists employ a critical lens to reflect on our position in the world today. Most of these works grew out of the division’s Student Interest Group (SIG), a student-led platform designed for artistic and technological experimentation.

During the opening events, an engaging conversation between the curators and artists dove deep into the artistic and technological contexts of the exhibition. At the opening ceremony, Professor Qu Huamin, Dean of AIS, marked this first MA graduation exhibition as a historic moment for the University. Professor Fu Hongbo, Acting Head of AMC, expressed immense pride in the students. As the very first cohort of a brand new division established just two years ago, these students have shown a fantastic capacity for taking risks, pushing boundaries, and seeing complex ideas through, setting a high standard for the future of art and technology.
