The HKUST AI Film Hackathon officially kicked off this Sunday, March 1 with the first tech workshop AI Filmmaking from Scratch. Led by phenomenal-class AIGC creator Turing Test Failed, the session welcomed the attendance of teams of enthusiastic secondary students—curious, passionate, and ready to explore how filmmaking meets the power of AI.
In the first half of the workshop, the speaker unpacked how AI actually “sees” and “thinks,” explaining how models interpret images through vectors rather than pixels, how attention and memory mechanisms shape every generated frame. and how to write prompts like real directors instead of relying on luck. He then walked through the entire AI filmmaking pipeline—from sparking ideas with simple What if… questions, to developing characters and environments, shaping worldviews, building storyboards and camera movements, and finally exploring how modern tools handle image and video generation, voice acting, music creation, and post‑production.
After the seminar, the workshop shifted into full practice mode🔧🧠. Under the guidance of our speaker and helpers, students created their own AI short‑film components—designing characters, generating scenes, matching styles across different camera angles, and experimenting with advanced prompt engineering techniques. The room quickly turned into a mini AI studio, buzzing with creativity and awesomeness 🎉💯
This first workshop wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of Kling AI, who generously provided free credits for all participants and connected us with a community of top‑tier creators 🙌✨ A huge thanks to them for empowering our young filmmakers and making their experience truly special.
The second workshop on Advanced Workflow will take place this coming Sunday, March 8. Stay tuned for more updates on AMC homepage and social media—more exciting stuff on the way! 🎥🔥
