The Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum 2025 (DELF), Cyberport’s annual flagship event, concluded in a resounding success on Sep 14, 2025. This year’s Forum, themed Adventure Island: Unlock Innovation with The Missing Piece, spotlighted the transformative potential of technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digital entertainment, arts and culture, sports, and beyond.

As one of the Supporting Institutes, the Division of Arts and Machine Creativity (AMC) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has seen active involvement from its faculty members and students in signature events and panel discussions, reflecting the division's unwavering commitment in advancing ArtTech initiatives on all fronts.

Faculty member Dr. Daniel CHUN joined a dynamic panel discussion titled "Creativity vs. AI: Safeguarding Human Ingenuity in a Digital World" alongside distinguished guests including Mr. David WONG, JP (Director of IPD, HKSAR), Mr. Gary NGAN (CFO, Meitu Inc.), and Mr. Elvis HE (Adjunct Professor, HKU). The conversation explored the intersection of artists' creativity, generative AI, and the evolving challenges of copyright in the digital age.

Faculty member Prof. Anyi RAO joined the panel titled "Preserving Culture Through Data: Building a Domestic Film and TV Intellectual Property Database" with Dr. Terry LAM (Dean of School of Film and Television, HKAPA), Mr. Mou Yin Anselm CHAN (Director, Hong Kong Screenwriters’ Guild), Ms. Irving CHEUNG (Director & Production Designer, Mitsu Visual Limited) and Mr. Tony LT LAU (Co-Founder & COO, Stageplus Hong Kong Limited). This panel explored the creation of a comprehensive domestic film and TV IP database to safeguard cultural heritage, with in-depth expert discussion on how data-driven preservation strategies can protect creative assets, combat infringement, and inspire future productions, ensuring the rich legacy of local arts remains accessible and influential for generations to come.

As part of the DELF-plus event series, AMC collaborated with Cyberport in the DELF AI-Generated Film Screening and Sharing session, in which 5 selected films from the first HKUST AI Film Festival was screened to a large audience including AMC students, with insightful sharing from veteran filmmakers on challenges and opportunities that presented themselves in applying AI to filmmaking processes.
