Division of Arts and Machine Creativity (AMC) was delighted to welcome Ms. Man Shek, Development Manager at Para Site, to deliver an insightful seminar for students.
With extensive experience at Asia Society Hong Kong, K11 Art Foundation, K11 Craft & Guild Foundation, Art Basel, and the Hong Kong Palace Museum, Ms. Shek offered students valuable first-hand insights into the diverse roles of art institutions within the wider art business ecosystem.
During her seminar, Ms. Shek introduced Para Site as a platform for artistic experimentation and emerging talent. She highlighted Asia Society’s role as a heritage-based cultural hub and a bridge for cross-cultural dialogue. She also discussed K11 Art Foundation’s support for emerging artists and curators, as well as the K11 Craft & Guild Foundation’s work in preserving and revitalizing traditional Chinese craftsmanship. She also examined how organizations with different missions, resources, and operating models support artists, engage audiences, preserve cultural heritage, and shape the art market. Ms. Shek explored how public museums contribute scholarship, conservation, education, and cultural legitimacy. Her insight was that these institutions are complementary rather than simply competitive. Together, they nurture artistic practice, connect communities and markets, preserve heritage, and contribute to a dynamic and interconnected cultural ecosystem.
With Ms. Shek’s valuable perspectives, the seminar provided students with a glimpse of real-world art administration and broadened their horizons. The seminar ended with a lively Q&A session.
