Artistic Creative Practice Title (6 Credits)
MFA students are expected to use Artistic Creative Practice courses to develop and refine the directions of their thesis work. These practice courses may be conducted in groups or on an individual basis with the project supervisor(s). Additionally, MFA students are expected to engage in their own art creation, combining it with machine creativity, through these artistic creative practice courses. Students will initially explore possibilities in AMCC 6200, before advancing to more complex art practices in AMCC 6210.
MFA students are also required to complete AMCC 6300 to prepare them to be future art educators by serving as an instructor and/or teaching assistant in undergraduate or postgraduate studio art courses.
- AMCC 6200 Artistic Creative Practice I (3 credits)
- AMCC 6210 Artistic Creative Practice II (3 credits)
- AMCC 6300 Art Education Practice (0 credit)
Thesis Project (9 Credits)
MFA students are required to create a substantial art tech project with a research component. This project can take various forms, such as time-based media, installations, design, and prototypes, applying machine creativity philosophy, principles, techniques, or innovations.
Full-time students are expected to propose their thesis projects by the end of the second term of study. Part-time students are allowed to propose their thesis project by the end of the fourth term of study, or by the end of the fifth term of study, if approved by the Program Director.
Students will initially explore possibilities in AMCC 6980, before advancing to a more complex final thesis project and exhibition in AMCC 6981.
Thesis projects will be jointly supervised by at least one AMC faculty member and one external expert, either in technology or art practice. A panel of judges from academic, art practice, technology, and critical studies backgrounds will examine the final outcomes of the thesis projects, evaluating their creative novelty, technological execution, and cultural significance during the annual MFA thesis project exhibition.
- AMCC 6980 Thesis Project - Studio I (3 credits)
- AMCC 6981 Thesis Project - Studio II (6 credits)
