A research team including AMC Assistant Professor Anyi RAO has developed LINO-UniPS, a new system that works like a super detective with three assistants of different expertise. The assistants work together to accurately separate illumination and surface information of objects from complex images. The research was published at a top computer vision conference on June 23, 2025.

The inaugural "AI Film Festival", organized by the Division of Arts and Machine Creativity at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), recently concluded on April 19, 2025 with great success. The festival attracted over 700 fully AI-generated artworks from more than 80 countries and regions worldwide, with three outstanding pieces ultimately standing out and receiving multiple awards. Over 700 filmmakers, including award-winning directors, Emmy-nominated storytellers, established and emerging producers from over 80 countries and regions, have submitted their fully-AI generated artworks to the first 100% AI-focused film festival hosted by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). AMC Research Assistant Professor Xian Xu's research team has received the Best Paper Honorable Mention Award in the IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces (IEEE VR) 2025. Published in March 2025, the paper presents the impact of virtual environments and collaboration on learning film lighting techniques in VR education, offering insights into optimizing VR environments to enhance learning outcomes in both individual and collaborative settings.
